Critical Reflection

Image
How do your products represent social groups or issues? Our product represents themes of guilt and little bits of domestic abuse. The element is there but we don't claim that our film is an accurate representation of the issues. It is merely in the story for dramatic purposes alone. The issue of domestic abuse is barely even brought up. It's not even brought up in a direct way, we just heavily imply that our protagonist killed his wife. That's also where the theme of guilt comes in, the protagonist feels guilty for killing his wife, and that's what leads him to make the decision he did at the end. I didn't put these elements to be woke and aware of social issues but because there was a deadline for the assignment and we rushed, it was one of the few ideas we were able to agree on. To add on, suicide could technically be another issue in the short, however, I wouldn't say the film represents any of the issues. The issues are just in the film for dramatic purpos

Final Task: The Drive

We finished our short film. We are happy with the way it came out. And we can’t wait for people to see it. https://youtu.be/7G7DXooS48I https://tanichasaintigene.wixsite.com/thedrive

Production Blog: Reviewing clips

Image
We finished filming. Cole did an excellent job. The clips look good, it doesn’t look like we’ll need to reshoot. I just have to edit now which I plan on doing later. I don't plan on using music. I do want to play around with editing techniques but I don’t think i’ll get the chance. Cole and his friend have impeccable acting. Hid dad really seals the deal. His dad really deserves an Oscar for his role in our short. Tanicha also did a good job. She did the postcards and all our media advertisements. Now i have to do a good job. I have to edit all the clips together. Cole did a huge favor and got the clips in order. Cole also only sent me the usable footage. That way I don’t have to look through a bunch of footage that would be unusable. The clips are also all in order. Cole really helped me with that. Now I just have to put it all together. I also need to get the names of everyone that starred in the film too. I plan on editing tomorrow on my iPad.

Production Blog: Filming

We had Cole film on Saturday. He did a good job filming. He filmed on Saturday and Monday. Watching the videos it came out good. I was busy working and so was Tanicha. Cole had his sister’s friend act as Iris. Cole played Dean. And Coles dad played the truck driver at the end. The filming process looked fun from the clips. I wish I could’ve been there but unfortunately I couldn’t. Next we have to start editing. That is something I have to work on. I’m thinking of adding a score. A nice piano touch wouldn’t hurt but we’ll see. I also wanna see about having a 5:4 aspect ratio. However only if it doesn't take away from the short. The short is honestly fun and charming. It was definitely more fun than serious and I prefer that to be honest. Editing is going to be fun and I look forward to it. I plan on editing next class.

Production Blog: Preparing to Film

Image
We are beginning to film. We are going to film near Cole’s house. I have a an iPad and we plan on editing using iMovie on the iPad. Tanicha is doing the advertising. And Cole will be doing the filming solo. Cole will be filming alone because Tanicha and I have work and are busy with other school activities. Cole has a copy of the script and the storyboard. And I will do the editing later on. And we are coming up with an extra day to film in case we need to reshoot. Cole will act in the short. Cole’s sister will film. And Cole’s sisters friend will also act in it alongside Cole. Tanicha is already done with the advertisement. We have everything planned for the upcoming stuff. We plan on editing next week on the 18th. I thought of paying for editing software. But I’ve used iMovie before and it makes the process simpler for me. Its free and cones already downloaded on the iPad. Obviously Ill be talking with Cole and Tanicha to see how to best put the film together. I’m excited to see how

Production Blog: Planning to Film

We have to come up with a day to film. We are thinking about a weekend. But no weekends work for all of us to be there. I have work all weekends. As well as after school activities for the following two weekends. Tanicha also has work. And Cole wont be in town for the following weekends after this weekend. It’s a little tough planning all of this. We plan on filming on a phone. We want to use an iPhone and edit on my iPad. Thats as far as we’ve brain stormed. We could do it on a weekday. But that’s very unlikely as we all have our own extracurriculars. I have JROTC. Tanicha has Track & Field. And Cole has Soccer. So it'd be very hard to film on a weekday. And even though there’s no school next Monday, Cole wont be in town. We have to get ready and figure it out soon. And we will, it'll be a fun process with little stress hopefully.

Planning: Storyboard

We have recently finished creating our storyboard. We used 11 pages and 66 slides. We feel good and confident going into filming. The first page is around the first 30 seconds. It is where we are first introduced to the story. It'll open with the first shot showing the front of a car. It will start from black and only audible noises at first. The trunk will be open and when it closes, the title will show. As Dean, our protagonist, walks to the front of the car, when he closes the door to his car the title disappears. Then the camera cuts to a high shot of the parking lot. For that I want to use a drone but if we can't then it will just be a shot of the car and the cars next to it. In the shot, the car will leave the driveway. Once the car pulls out, the camera will cut to the next scene. The next scene will be the car driving down the road. Hopefully, we can use a car stand to get a cool shot of the mirror reflection. Or we could have someone stand outside recording the car pas
